Trailer courses

You may drive a vehicle with a trailer if category E is entered on the credit card-sized driver’s licence for the corresponding towing vehicle (for example, BE, CE, etc.).

According to the Road Traffic Act (SVG Art. 95), driving a vehicle with a trailer without the corresponding driver’s licence category fulfills the conditions of “driving without a valid driver’s licence”, and you may be prosecuted accordingly.
In the event of an accident, the insurance company may have recourse.

A learner’s driving licence is required. This is valid for two years and allows you to drive without an accompanying person in Switzerland.
